Greetings of the season, happy hols, stay safe

As we approach the end of this unbelievably horrid year, my greetings are more muted.

I wish all of you a happy time, whether you're with friends, family or on your lonesome. There are better times to come (and undoubtedly worse times, too). Make the most of what you have and be careful. Stay safe.

This day last year (Christmas Eve in south eastern Australia) it was hot and smoky:

This year there's no smoke, just clear skies and a gentle summer breeze blowing. Lovely.

In closing, here's a pic of one of the friends I made this year.

Greetings of the season - enjoy it while you can

Happy holidays, happy Christmas, happy furlough, and I wish you all the best for 2019.

This is the time of year when you might see lots of advice about how to talk to your wacky uncle about climate, suggestions about finding common values etc.

In my view, if you're having a family get-together it's better to just be nice to your denier relatives. Anyone who still rejects climate science is a lost cause on that subject.

Family get-togethers can be trying enough without adding more tension. In any case, if you don't know yet what values you share with your weirder relatives then you probably never will.

Instead of explaining how devious disinformers have played a hoax on them, find out what other conspiracy theories they entertain. Shift the conversation to something more innocuous that will amuse you and won't get you worked up, like how they know that gravity is a hoax :)

If you have the opportunity to take some time off from work (forced or otherwise), make the best of it.

I'll see you all back here in 2019.

Happy holiday one and all. It's Christmas at our place, and we'll be having a family get-together, on a warm 38 C (100 F) sunny day.

Whatever you're up to, be happy, stay safe, and enjoy the break if you're lucky enough to have one.

PS If you think I'm jumping the gun, it'll be Christmas Day in just half an hour here :)

Well - it's Christmas Eve already.

From sunny Australia let me wish you all happy holidays and a healthy, safe and successful 2015. May the weather be kind and the CO2 drop.

Happy Holidays to Everyone

Well - it's Christmas Eve already.

Happy Holidays to everyone.

It's been quite an interesting year with some serious weather events, the widest tornado, the worst typhoon and Australia's hottest year on record, and the IPCC WG1 report - congrats to all the authors for a job well done. Plus ordinary Australians spoke up with their wallets and came up with more than half a million dollars in about three days for the Climate Council after our incoming climate-wrecking Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, shut down the Climate Commission.

HotWhopper had it's first birthday this month and, coincidentally, it's also just registered more than 500,000 page views from people in 145 countries, which amazes me.  A big thank you to all HotWhopper readers and everyone who's linked to HotWhopper in various parts of the web.

The most popular article was Watts is Whopping Mad (Crazy) after Marcott et al - Must be the Heat! followed by David Rose and his tabloid "reporting" of Arctic sea ice and other nonsense.

Others included:
Anthony Watts is finally back to his field of expertise, with help and Cook et al Paper Confirms 97% Scientific Consensus - Prompting Silly Conspiracy Theories from Anthony Watts and WUWT and to round off the top five Talking to contrarians. Why do you do it? Or why not?

I wish everyone a safe, happy, healthy and successful 2014.  May the weather be kind and the CO2 drop.

Here's an Australianised Christmas song.  Hope you like it :)

PS I upped the time of this post to keep it at the top for a bit in the spirit of the holiday season.
