For HotWhopper, not WUWT |
Anthony Watts is over the moon with excitement that he came top of the class in the weather blog category of some award. The "award" looks to be a way of getting clicks to a content reader/gatherer called Feedspot, which was set up a few years ago - back in 2013 from the look of things.
It's weather, not climate, Anthony!
Well, I've got news for Anthony Watts. He probably didn't know that Feedspot also has a top 40 global warming and climate change category. That's because WUWT isn't in the top 40. It didn't make the list, as of this writing. The top website in that category is SkepticalScience.com.
HotWhopper is in the Top 40, too. It came in at No. 12, but didn't accept the "award" when it was offered last year. In fact when I get these emails from Anuj Agarwal, I write back and explain why it's meaningless. His list is a mixed bag of climate science and climate conspiracy blogs, with some climate disinformation websites thrown in for good measure. (Obviously my email is as much a waste of time as the award lists are a waste of space.)
Today I've made an exception, just to taunt. Up top I've posted the image emailed to me of "award" given to HotWhopper by the same person who "awarded" Anthony. (I've not linked the award image back to Feedspot :D).
Exploding heads? WUWT didn't make the Global Warming Top 40
Poor Anthony. His ego is clearly feeling in need of a nudge because he wrote this exuberant headline:
Oh gosh, this is going to cause some heads to explodeI haven't seen any exploding heads lying about. I wonder if his head will explode when he finds out Skeptical Science was "awarded" No. 1 in the Top 40 global warming and climate change category, with HotWhopper at No. 12, and not a mention of WUWT?
Anthony does get a little bit hysterical from time to time. Though maybe that's as fake as his blog articles. Given how much extreme weather there's been lately, it could be he hopes to distract his readers by boasting about being sucked in by a meaningless marketing effort.
From the WUWT comments
Not everyone is as enthusiastic about the "award" as Anthony is. He mentioned how Roy Spencer came in to the weather blog category at No. 2. Well, his was the first comment on Anthony's blog:

I got the email too. Some sort of scam to attract traffic I assume.
There were a number of other people who were sceptical of the award and the reasons for it. However others did what Anthony hoped they would do and poured accolades upon him. RobR wrote:

A big congrats to Anthony and team Watts!
Kip Hansen is happy enough that WUWT at least made the weather list, even though it didn't rate in the global warming list :(

Anthony ==> #1 — Weather Blog……
It has taken a lot of perseverance on your part to see this thing through — but if nothing else, the Climate Alarm Team is not fooling itself — it knows who their real opposition is: WUWT.
I’ll buy ya that beer (and I’;m a tee-totaller!)
Extreme Hiatus thinks weather and climate are two distinct things. Well, that's not quite the whole story, is it.
January 12, 2018 at 3:22 pmchaamjamal is immediately suspicious and asks:
Congrats Anthony! Well deserved. To think it all started with a change of paint!
But… I thought weather and climate were two distinct things, except hot weather of course.

What’s he selling?

He wants a reciprocal link from WUWT because WUWT gets a lot of traffic.
“you have the honor of displaying the badge on your blog”
That “badge” will be a link back to his website.

ReplyDeleteThat award is as meaningful as the ones on the sidebar on his make-believe "science" blog.
I like your use of alliteration in earlier your post's comment
I received an email from some gold miners in Africa who wanted to rest some money in my bank account if only I'd pass its details to them. Sadly, I was too busy to oblige them. Perhaps I should forward that email to young Anthony.
ReplyDeleteIn a moment of desperation for an audience of intelligent people, Anthony agrees to address vets in a military hospital. One old soldier keeps calling out, "Rubbish! Nonsense! Lies."
ReplyDeleteAfterwards Anthony says to the superintendent, "I suppose you realise by now you're wasting your time with this man?"
"On the contrary," replied the doctor quietly, " This officer has been here since Viet Nam and it's the first sign of improvement we have seen... "

Utterly offtopic, but how about updating the blog roll (a useful resource) with Stoat's new blog address? https://mustelid.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteDone. Thanks, Phil.
ReplyDeleteAlso OT. What happened to JoNova's David Evans who was going to blow mainstream climate science out of the water with some paper he was promising to put out. I remember reading about it last year or the year before. Apparently the guy's got about six higher degrees and can solve differential equations in his sleep, so a lot of deniers got very excited at the prospect of this genius disproving the science. Curious to know if he ever did publish a paper, and how it was received by the real scientists.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the wonderful Farce X. From what I remember, Farce X was a purely imaginary phenomenon based on choosing a mathematical fit to temperature data that gave the results desired by the fossil fuel industry. I suspect that with more recent (and inconveniently hot) data to add, the fit is no longer favourable to Exxon Mobil et al and is therefore out of favour.
ReplyDeleteHow to create a strawman?
ReplyDeleteDo like Peter Carson, and ignore any and all GHGs in the atmospheres of Earth, Mars and Venus, other than CO2.
This is beyond stupid, Peter. No wonder the PSI guys love you...
Peter Carson left comment spam linking to his wacky denier website. I've removed it.
ReplyDeleteThe Economist deserves a real medal the weeks shrewdest observation about Scott Pruitt’s Red team proposal:

Looking for info on the Oceans 2k 2015 publishing of the 20th century bin data .
ReplyDelete.
The Oceans 2k site said would be published in May ,2017 .
.
Anyone here know if it was ? The Oceans 2k website has not been updated ,looks like being folded into Pages .
Peter Carson? Who he? PSI? Wot's dat? Did I miss something?
ReplyDeleteCome on guys. Give us enough information so we can follow the plot.
I haven't visited his website but from what he wrote here it seems Peter Carson has discovered that the entire scientific community has it wrong and that a 'proper' consideration of the Earth's greenhouse gases shows that there is no need to do anything that would threaten fossil fuel industry profits. We can all only wonder why he hasn't submitted his epoch-defining scientific paper and is now waiting to receive a richly deserved Nobel prize.

A.K.A the sky dragon slayers
A bunch of cranks so wacky they have been banned from discussions even at LOLWUWT.
Judith deleted threads that considered their nonsense worth debating. Dr Roy Spencer PhD is another denier who has distanced himself from their gibbering stupidity.
The name is another Galileo gambit.
They are trying for some of the reflected glory of Newton's Principia Mathematica, published by the Royal Society in 1687.
Hi Sou,
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you've been following the Peter Ridd/James Cook University controversy, fast becoming a cause celebre at WUWT etc. Anthony appears outraged that
'A revised statement of claim alleges JCU trawled through private email conversations in a bid to bolster its misconduct case against him.'
This would be the same WUWT that still has a whole section on the Climategate nothingburger. No sense of irony, these deniers.
Anyhow, I am going to do a bit more digging, goes without saying that what Watts has put up will be a half truth at best. Ridd appears to have links to a fairly nasty denier group and fossil fuel interests, and I find it implausible that JCU acted without good cause.
Best,
Phil C
