Can President-Elect Trump stop climate change?

Is Donald Trump a god in disguise? There has been much celebration at the likely appointment of the next US President. A lot of climate science deniers seem to think that Donald Trump can stop the forces of nature. There is little to no awareness on denier blogs that, if anything, Trump will make global warming worse. Here's just one example:

One can only hope that Trump keeps his word on climate change, and climate change dies a quick death.

  1. I do not think he will make any huge difference.
Self absorbed people like you and I have done the damage and basically we will be dead when the effects hurt the grand children of us.
He may try to stop the movement to a more sensible usage of Carbon however it would appear that there is already enough of the CO2 and equivalent in the atmosphere to ensure that in 100 years the earth is going to face a very different situation.

    1. Hey John, cRR and I are the resident pessimists here - but welcome to the club.

  2. What's the problem? Trump backs urgent action and he said it is scientifically irrefutable that failure to act will bring catastrophic and irreversible consequences for the planet and humanity. Its in black and white. So we're fine, unless he's a lying piece of …. https://grist.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/nyt.jpg?w=1200&h=2152

    1. Oh, that's too funny...this will run and run [in the sane media]

  3. I have never seen any hope at all unless we tackle both climate change and overpopulation.

    1. Indeed Milliscent.

And as Dano observed on the previous thread there's probably not much choice left now, with respect to the latter, so hope might be that dwindling speck in the rear-view mirror...

  4. Hints today on CBC radio that people are starting to look to China for leadership. If that happens China may reap the benefit both diplomatically and financially. With Trump perceived as uncooperative and untrustworthy by most of the world the US's place status is at risk.

  5. This is a coming idea. See Climate Central

It may well be correct. As the US withdraws from international agreements, becomes more isolationist and more protectionist it's influence on the world will decrease. China is ideally placed to take its place.

  6. I posted the China angle long before I saw it in the media.

  7. It appears that Trump is now reconsidering his position.

If he's not careful Smokey will be resurrecting his KGB/FSB conspiracy theory. It's not just the Pope who is in their employ you know.

  8. He's reconsidered reconsidering. Trump has gone Full Stupid. Never go Full Stupid.
