RealClimate.org is up and running again

This is just to let you know that realclimate.org is back up and running. It might take a few hours to propagate everywhere. If you have trouble reaching the main site, you can access the back-up website here.

I did have the back-up site in the blog roll for a short spell. I've now changed it back again, but it may take a while to detect. Meanwhile, you can still click on the link which seems to be currently right at the bottom of the blogroll. [I'm leaving it off the blogroll until the links are directed back to the main site.]

Congrats to Gavin Schmidt and co. I really thought it would take quite a bit longer to sort out. They fixed the problem in record time - though they still have to update the links. (You may find yourself going back and from from the main website to the backup website when you click on links.)

  1. But, but... according to the savvy not-at-all-small-minded-and-nasty geniuses at WUWT, it was down because Schmidt and co. weren't making enough advertising money out of it! Truly I'm glad I don't live in those heads...

  2. Afraid when I try to click on my Favourites saved link to realclimate, I keep getting advertising sites. What's to do about that?

    1. Just wait a bit for the dns caches in your area to be refreshed.

You can check where it's updated using this link - or this one. The IP address you want is 108.xxx.xxx.xx, not the 208.xx.xxx.xxx

  3. The backup works though. I won't lose me daily dose of climate science.

  4. Thank you! One friend is in big trouble from this and it's good to know that we will still have the full record on the weirdness that was ClimateGate and the full on evasions of Judith Curry in real time as she was going off into letourplanetdieland for her 30 pieces of silver equivalent (fame, ego, whatever, I find the mindset unfathomable).

  5. OT: Looks like Alex Epstein is greenwashing ahead of Paris. Identical articles with Texas and Alaska switched.

It's interesting that he chose these two publications to send a letter to the editor. Probably barely anyone here has heard about the upcoming Paris climate talks. I guess he knew he would have a sympathetic audience in both publications.

  6. OT : And for another totally off-topic post, here is a link to the The Science of Climate Change presentation given to the Prime Minister and Premiers of Canada earlier this week. http://ec.gc.ca/sc-cs/Default.asp?lang=En&n=A5F83C26-1

There is nothing in it that readers here will not have seen before but the contrast between this and our former Federal Government's tacit denial of AGW is a bit startling.

Remembering that Steven Harper (RIP) and Tony Abbot (RIP) were buddies, I doubt that either one would have listened to such a presentation.

    1. Harper may have listened so he could then find a way to eliminate the presenter's day job and/or shut down/defund their department/research unit. :-)

I can't say just how glad I am that Harper is gone. He was heading toward full-blown tea party Republican complete with an alternate version of reality where evidence and facts don't matter.

  7. I know Sou doesn't like us to link to articles on WUWT, but the one about realclimate.org going 'dark' is still on the FP if you want to read it. As per usual, the comments were 95% vitriol, with lots of conspiracy theorising and very little rational though on display. Good for a few chuckles, anyway.
