Some tweets from the Michael Mann lecture in Bristol

The cautionary tweet:

Does that mean no questions again?

Does it mean Anthony Watts thinks his mates are a bunch of louts who are likely to cause a ruckus?

Does it mean that Anthony Watts is not going to be respectful of the guest speaker?

So many questions.

The "I'm a solid citizen" tweet. Anthony is going to "lead by example" - is it this example? or perhaps this example? or maybe this example.

The more interesting tweets are likely to come from people like Leo Hickman. He's started already.

    1. The "Usual Suspects" are tweeting, trying to bring up the ClimateGate accusations for another airing. To be expected I guess.

    2. I see that James Delingpole is there, too. Will he ask a dumb question? He loves the limelight.

    3. Sadly could not make the talk as I had planned. Please keep us informed. Shame there is not a live feed video.

    4. Redundant "dumb" there. "Will he ask a question" says it all.

  2. A great lecture this evening from Michael Mann, covering all the ground that one would expect but with the personal insight of someone in the front line. The tone of the questioning was completely different to the John Cook evening in which all but one of the questions was contrarian. This time, the roving microphone didn't manage to find a single one of that stripe.

  3. I like the "earliest exit ramp" metaphor, very useful.

  4. It is a nice metaphor, unfortunately we've just left Salina, UT and the next exit ain't until Green River. (That's 107 miles w/no exits to speak of, interesting country, but I wouldn't want to break down)

    1. It's a cracking bit of country! I did some fieldwork out there last year, looking at natural CO2 seeps. Stayed in Green River and loved every minute of it.

Report here is anyone's interested: http://vitaminccs.wordpress.com/2013/10/18/field-report-from-utah/

    2. Could be worse; on the Highway to Hell there are no exit ramps at all ...

  5. James Delingpole was indeed there. He failed to ask anything. At the end he was hanging around in the foyer chatting, perhaps waiting for a chance to confront Michael, who was busy signing books. Excellent lecture with some amusing asides to add to the serious science.
