Huge tracts of native land denied by different governments now will be controlled by first nation groups. This will affect pipeline routes as well as oil sand territory .

Governments are now charged with consulting meaningfully and achieving consent. Failing that, compulsion could be used but would kick in years of legal problems for any government that out of touch.

This also means that the oil companies would have to pay first nations fair market royalties. They hate this idea and may abandon their plant rather than deal in good faith. rumleyfipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03346146988416679423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2313427464944392482.post-17981342264130099752014-06-29T23:06:28.975+10:002014-06-29T23:06:28.975+10:00Considering the legal minefield that the Northern ...Considering the legal minefield that the Northern Gateway project is entering, I'd honestly be surprised if this gets out of the courts before 2025.The Northern Gamerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17908403912113309151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2313427464944392482.post-40064833485237625112014-06-29T21:49:58.423+10:002014-06-29T21:49:58.423+10:00So if Keystone goes ahead the US will have to pay ...So if Keystone goes ahead the US will have to pay more for the Canadian muck because the pesky Asians want it too.
