We are, so far, but ...Hope you're staying safe. We are, so far, but it's getting increasingly harder and harder. I live right next door to Idaho where nobody takes the pandemic seriously (little to no masking, social distancing and so on).

The major regional hospital in Coeur D'alene for the entire northern region of Idaho has ZERO beds available now, and still the local population does not take this seriously (proof the massive disinformation works).

So far, the plague of stupid has taken the lives of tens of thousands here, nothing seems to be able to stop it. Little children are now dying, pre-teens, teens and young people too. It's shocking, heart breaking and sad. Adults refuse to protect their own, all rather unbelievable.

The damage that the Trump cult inflicted on this country and their response to the pandemic is truly incalculable. We all wish it would just go away, or they would go away, whatever comes first, sooner the better.

I've pointed out that none of my freedoms have been infringed by wearing a mask, social distancing or getting the vaccine shots. So have many, many others, but there is no fixing stupid it seems. These people would rather die and kill others then do what is right. I think this means that this country is truly lost and there will be no real recovery here, ever.

Meanwhile, I'm still blogging. Dr Ye Tao has a presentation about humanity and our chances to survive deadly climate change which I found interesting. He gives us only 20 or 30 years left before extreme heat kills off our food supply. He's got an answer that he's proposing, Earth based mirrors. I don't know if it would work, but good grief, we've GOT to get going on something.

https://survivalacres.com/blog/the-bad-news-is-on-current-trajectory-most-of-us-here-today-will-not-be-able-to-live-to-our-biological-lifespan-potential/

I look at my young grandchildren and what they're facing and it just breaks my heart. I hope we can stay below that, but even 2C is dreadful.

During the height of the last Ice Age maximum, the world was between 2C and 3C colder than in the early 1900s. A difference of 2C to 3C is the difference between half of the world covered in ice, and the climate we all grew up in.

What 2C to 3C warmer means is hard to understand, but it will inevitably mean a difference on the same scale. Humans have never lived in that world. Our civilization as it is cannot possibly handle it. This doesn't necessarily mean the collapse of civilization, but it does mean enormous changes we aren't prepared for and don't understand.

A century is not a long time. I've lived well over half a century already. A good percentage of the people born this year will live to see the year 2100. They won't even be 80 yet. Consider that, if the timescale of the coming climate catastrophe seems like a long time.D.C.Pettersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05078422582348328238noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2313427464944392482.post-43315191443751368822021-08-12T04:07:51.734+10:002021-08-12T04:07:51.734+10:00I didn't know you had email alerts! I've done a study of what causes these problems. It's too complex to get into here, but yes, it seems inevitable. (One way of avoiding it is a sort of autocratic rule over the organization, but that's something few of us want.)

In this case, the stakes are too high to let these dynamics interfere with pursuing the goals of tackling climate change.
